RAJKOT: A 35-year-old man and his 80-year-old mother died of consuming poison on March 25 in Rajkot in Gujarat.
The police had registered an accidental death at that time.
However, a video of the deceased man surfaced on Monday where he confesses to having given poison to his mother before he consumed it.
He is also heard telling in the video: "I am going and taking mother with me, because now we mother and son can't live."
According to the police, Sikandar Limbadiya and his mother Amina, a resident of Bhaktinagar area in Rajkot, died of consuming poison on March 25 in a civil hospital.
Sikandar made a video before consuming poison and sent it to his sister Reshma, who reported to the police about this video.
She told police that Sikandar, who was a driver, was unmarried, her mother was on bed rest, because of age-related illness.
She received a call from her brother's neighbour on March 25 stating that her mother and brother were unconscious and they were taken to the civil hospital.
Her mobile phone's data was off, and she switched on data at around 10pm in the hospital when both her mother and brother were critical.
She found a video of her brother — sent before consuming poison — addressed to her, where he says, "I can't go alone leaving my mother. Who will take care of her? So I am taking her with me."
He also regretted in the video for not being able to do anything for the family.
Both son and mother died in the hospital during the treatment.
Reshma was called by the police for recording the statement after she completed the after-death rituals of her mother and brother and she submitted this video before the police.
"We have registered a case of murder against Sikandar. In our primary investigation, we believe that he took this extreme step because of the financial crunch, but we are investigating whether he was in debt or not," said a senior police officer of Bhaktinagar police station.
