Etihad Airways flight makes emergency landing at Bengaluru airport after cabin pressure drop
The plane, that was scheduled to touch down in Abu Dhabi at 11.30pm on Sunday, reached the UAE capital only around 4am on Monday.
BENGALURU: An Etihad Airways flight with more than 200 passengers onboard made an emergency landing in Bengaluru Airport following a pressure drop in the aircraft’s cabin forcing the pilots to return. The flight was headed to Abu Dhabi from Bengaluru when the technical snag was detected, and following a delay of over four hours the flight landed in its destination safely.
Sources with Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) confirmed that Etihad Airways flight EY 237 from Bengaluru to Abu Dhabi took off at 9.07pm on Sunday. Minutes after take-off the captain detected a drop in cabin pressure inside the aircraft which was packed with passengers and a little less than a dozen crew members. The pilots alerted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower in KIA and the flight was asked to return. The Etihad plane circled over the Nandi Hills area and made an emergency landing minutes before 10pm with all passengers and crew onboard safe.
Snag caused over four-hour delay
After landing, engineers inspected the plane on the tarmac and the snag was fixed before the flight was cleared for take off. The technical snag caused a delay of over four hours leaving the passengers onboard restless. The plane, that was scheduled to touch down in Abu Dhabi at 11.30pm on Sunday, reached the UAE capital only around 4am on Monday, Bengaluru Airport sources added.
Etihad Airways media team couldn’t be reached for a comment on the flight incident that unfolded in Bengaluru on Sunday night.
