Fresh clashes in Bengal's Hooghly, BJP leader ‘injured’; internet suspended

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged on Sunday evening that a Ram Navami rally was attacked in Rishra in West Bengal's Hooghly district.
They further alleged that their local legislator was injured, which resulted in the imposition of prohibitory orders and suspension of internet services by the state government. The government of West Bengal has ordered the immediate suspension of internet services in the Hooghly district following communal tensions triggered by arson on Sunday evening. 1. Ruckus and stone pelting erupted during the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Shobha yatra in Hooghly on Sunday.
2. The state government issued prohibitory orders after clashes were reported during a Shobha Yatra organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday evening. According to the state government's order, internet services will remain suspended in Hooghly district till 10.00 pm Monday.
3. Dilip Ghosh, BJP national vice-president and participant in the rally, shared a video on social media claiming that stones were pelted from the mosque. The incident occurred shortly after the West Bengal Police's criminal investigation department (CID) had initiated a probe into incidents of violence related to Ram Navami celebrations at Shibpur in Howrah district on March 30 and 31.
4. On Thursday, a case was registered against Goshamahal legislator, T Raja Singh at Shahinyathgunj police station for allegedly provoking the public to disturb the peaceful atmosphere during the Sri Ram Navami Shobha Yatra held in the city.
5. West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose said that hooligans and thugs will be crushed with an iron hand. “They will be made to curse the day they were born. Democracy can't be derailed. The state is determined to put an end to this arson and looting. Lawbreakers will soon realise that they're playing with fire."
6. Following the violence in Howrah during Ram Navami celebrations, the West Bengal government on Friday handed over the probe to Criminal Investigation Department (CID). A special team led by Inspector General of Police, CID Sunil Choudhury has initiated the investigation.
7. BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday evening via a letter, seeking his intervention due to the worsening law and order situation in West Bengal. In the letter, Majumdar expressed concern about the situation going out of control and called for immediate action to ensure the safety of ordinary citizens and their property. This comes after a fresh bout of violence during a Ram Navami rally in West Bengal's Hooghly district, which allegedly resulted in the injury of a local BJP legislator.
8. On Thursday, during the Ram Navami celebrations in Howrah, two groups clashed, and several vehicles were set on fire. Rioters also vandalized public and private property and caused damage to vehicles during the procession.
9. "No restriction is being imposed on voice calls and SMS and on newspapers hence communication and dissemination of knowledge and information is not stopped in any way," the state government's order added.
10. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also earlier spoke to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and took stock of the situation in Howrah where violence broke out.
