Bottlenecks to be removed in a month to ease Ranchi traffic flow
Ranchi: Concerned over regular traffic snarls in the capital, Ranchi deputy commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha has formed separate teams and tasked them with to-do lists to remove bottlenecks within a month restoring mobility in the city.
A few days ago, the district administration divided the city into six zones for preparing short and long-term plans to execute the initiative. Notably, the Jharkhand high court too has occasionally been lashing out at government for lack of effective traffic management. On Saturday evening, Sinha held an emergency meeting to issue area-specific directives asking officers to act promptly within a month. Among the major directives, Sinha has ordered teams to focus on removing unwanted hoardings and advertisements banners from the streets, checking encroachments and addressing the issue of broken roads and potholes.
For zone one covering Lalpur-Kantatoli-Kokar-Booty More stretch, Sinha directed the dedicated teams of traffic department and Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to remove identified traffic booths and advertisement boards immediately to increase road space. “This apart, identified electric poles have to be relocated or remove to clear bottlenecks. District road construction department has been asked to repair damaged roads within a month. Smart City Mission officials have been asked to relocate bicycle stands to safer places as they shrink road width and parking spaces for vehicles,” said Sinha. Similarly, for zone 2 which covers Radium Road-Jail Chowk-Plaza Chowk-Misson Chowk stretch, he has asked officials to finish drain work on priority basis to end traffic jam near Nucleus Mall.
“Here (zone-3 covering Karbala Chowk, Bahu Bazar, Munda Chowk and Sujata Chowk), electric poles are a major hindrance for vehicles. Encroachments by roadside vendors are another nuisance in the area. The DC has ordered to relocate them in 30 days to free up space,” informed an official, adding area-specific targets have been given to all teams for six zones.
