Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS) campus at Dona Paula will be completed by the end of May 2023.
Earlier he carried out inspection of the ongoing works at the project site.
“The NIWS project which commenced in 2014 has been delayed due to the COVID pandemic, issues related to coordination between central authorities and Goa Industrial Development Corporation,” Sawant added.
The National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), Goa is a centre functioning under the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), a central autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, for training and certification in water sports and related activities.
“Nearly 2,500 people from across the country take benefit of the short and long-term courses at the institute,” the Chief Minister informed. Many post-graduate courses are presently offered at the institute, and plans are afoot to start graduation and even doctoral courses in the discipline.
The Chief Minister also inspected the work of protection and restoration of the Mandovi river coastline, from Miramar Circle to Youth Hostel, and from Kala Academy to opposite the Entertainment Society of Goa.
