AIZAWL: Students of all state government schools in
Mizoram will wear a common school uniform as prescribed by the state school education department from Wednesday onwards when the new academic session begins.
School education department officials said the district education officers and sub-divisional education officers in all districts have been reminded of the uniform implementation to ensure that all the students wear the prescribed uniform right from day one.
"We have also instructed the district education department officials to inspect schools to check that the teachers enforce the instructions on the common uniform," an official said.
In some schools, the state government is bearing Rs 600 for each student so that they can buy clothes for the uniform while the student concerned will pay the stitching charges. In other cases, the teachers contributed money to pay for the uniform for their students, while some teachers even travelled to neighbouring states to buy clothes for the common uniform of their students at cheaper rates.
Earlier, state school education minister Lalchhandama Ralte said the common school uniform was introduced to ensure equality among the students and the identification of primary, middle and high/higher secondary school students, maintenance of better discipline and procurement of uniforms at cheaper rates.
Ralte said the students of government schools will not require to buy another set of uniforms even when their parents are transferred to other cities or villages.
Except for the trousers/skirts and shirts, for which specifications are already notified separately for primary, middle and high school students, different schools can have their own badges, t-shirts and neckties.
