NOIDA: Over six lakh residents of the city are likely to start getting Ganga water from May.
Officials said work on the project-which is already a year and a half behind schedule-was in its last leg and was expected to be over this month itself.
The Rs 228-crore project is being implemented by the Jal Nigam. Issues related to acquiring land to lay an 80m-long pipeline in Dasna are holding
up the project. Once ready, the city will get 37.5 cusec of Ganga water.
Officials said once the Dasna land was acquired, the Jal Nigam would lay pipes on that portion and complete the network. Besides, a channel from the head regulator to the primary treatment plant is yet to be constructed.
Efforts were on to complete these two works as early as possible, the officials said. The entire project involves supplying 50 cusec of Ganga water. Of this, 37.5 cusec (90 MLD) will be supplied to 26 sectors in the city and the remaining 12.5 cusec to the Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Council.
Among the sectors that will get Ganga water are 122, 128, 130, 131, 133, 134, 135, 144, 145, 151, 168 and so on.
When the project was launched in March 2018, the initial deadline was November 2021. However, it missed several deadlines, which saw the cost escalate from Rs 240 crore to Rs 304 crore.
Of the total cost, the Noida Authority will bear Rs 228 crore. Of this, Rs 135 crore will be paid to the Jal Nigam and the remaining Rs 93 crore to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
While Jal Nigam was responsible for the construction of the primary treatment plant, laying a 7.8km pipeline for raw water and another 120 MLD water treatment plant, NHAI has to lay a 12.7km pipeline under its highway.
Work on the primary and water treatment plants are almost over, the officials said.
