16-year-old boy kills dad with uncle’s help for beating mom

COIMBATORE: A 16-year-old boy and his maternal uncle were arrested on Sunday for murdering his father, who was harassing his mother in an inebriated state, at Jallipatti village near Aliyar on Saturday night.
The Aliyar police said the incident occurred around 10pm on Saturday, when V Vijayakanth, 52, a native of Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district, came home drunk and fought with his wife V Bhagyalakshmi, 40.
“When his minor son and brother-in-law R Vijayakumar, 33, a native of Nallurpalayam near Panruti in Cuddalore district, tried to pacify him, Vijayakanth grabbed a sickle and threatened them. In a fit of rage, his son assaulted him with a brick. Vijayakumar also thrashed him with a coconut frond. The duo then pushed Vijayakanth down and his head hit on a coconut truck. He succumbed to his severe head injuries on the spot,” a police officer said.
He said all the family members had been working with a brickkiln at Jallipatti village for the past one year and residing at the workers’ quarters. “Neighbours who witnessed the incident alerted us. We rushed to the spot, nabbed the duo, and sent the body to the government headquarters hospital in Pollachi for postmortem.”
The Aliyar police registered a murder case and arrested the minor boy and Vijayakumar. The boy has been sent to the observation home for juveniles at Lakshmi Mills Junction, while Vijayakumar has been lodged in jail under judicial custody. The officer said Vijayakanth was in the habit of beating his wife under the influence of alcohol.
