MYSURU: Members of Mysuru city and district Congress unit on Sunday held a protest in front of Dr B R Ambedkar statue at Town Hall in the city with a slogan 'Save the Constitution, Save the Country' accusing the state government of misusing the reservation for its political advantage this election season.
They shouted slogans against the
BJP government accusing it of misrule and asked people to overthrow the government. They said the government is dividing people based on caste and religious lines.
Former CM Siddaramaiah accused the BJP government of betraying people over reservation issue. He said without any constitutional validity, the revised reservation matrix is invalid.
He said Congress is in favour of population-based reservation for all communities including Lingayats, Vokkaligas and assured people that Congress will bring suitable legislation, amendment to the Constitution to protect the interest of all communities including SC/STs/ OBCs, if voted to power.
Asserting that BJP has created confusion over the reservation, he asked people to be wary of BJP's strategy as both BJP and RSS always stood against the reservation. He also condemned the scrapping of reservation provided for Muslims which was enjoyed by them in the state for the last 28 years.
AICC Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala also accused the Karnataka and the Union govermments of betraying people over many issues, including reservation. Though BJP revised the reservation but it has not recommended it to the centre, he said. Former ministers H C Mahadevappa, Tanveer Sait and Jameer Ahamed were present.
