GURGAON: Commuters travelling between IFFCO Chowk metro station and Sector 29 were relieved when the civic authorities took a note of their plight and repaired the stretch in February.
However, their happiness was shortlived as potholes started appearing on the recarpeted road after a few spells of rain in March, making it difficult for motorists to commute.
The 100-metre stretch that had been lying in a shambles for a year was repaired keeping in mind the G20 summit. Following the recent rain, commuters are forced to negotiattiate potholes on this key stretch. Mohit Datta, a resident of Sushant Lok-1, who commutes on this road daily said that the quality of materials used to repair the road was so poor that it could not withstand a few spells of rain. “For the last one year, we were struggling to commute due to the pathetic condition of this road and when they finally recarpeted it, we thought our misery ended.
But it was just an eyewash,” Datta said Another commuter, Gopal Yadav, said that it’s shame that the civic authorities used poor construction materials. “Strict action should be taken against the contractor for doing such a shabby job and the officials concerned for approving the work. There is a need to conduct a thorough probe in this matter as it is a waste of public money,” Yadav said.
“The civic authorities are bothered about ordeal that we face while commuting on this stretch. The authorities are not only compromising on the construction quality but also not ensuring road safety,” said Vivek Sakhuja, a resident of Sector 43. A senior official of HSVP said the matter didn’t come to their notice. “I will get it checked and take action if required.”
