NOIDA: A 27-year-old man died after his Royal Enfield bike skidded off the road and fell into a 15-foot deep drain near Omaxe NRI City in Greater Noida's Sector Omega 2 late on Saturday.
According to the police, the man was not wearing a helmet and succumbed to head injuries.
Subodh Singh, a Dastampur resident, was riding on the isolated service lane in the Dankaur police station area around 10pm on Saturday when he allegedly lost control of the bike and skid off the road.
The bike first hit a tree and then fell into a 15-foot deep drain, police said. A passerby later found a severely injured Singh in the drain and took him to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to the injuries during treatment, police added.
His body has been sent for post-mortem and other legal proceedings initiated, an official said.
Riding two-wheelers without a helmet is a violation of traffic rules and is punishable.
According to the data obtained from the Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic police, over 60,000 challans have been issued for helmet-related violations in the first three months of the year, which is more than one-fourth of all the challans issued last year.
The data shows that in 2022, a total of 2,38,225 challans were issued to motorists caught riding a two-wheeler without a helmet.
