Bokaro booth-level officers targeted by cyber criminals
Bokaro: The district election office on Saturday evening issued notice of caution to all booth-level officers (BLOs) of the election department in the district to refrain from divulging bank account numbers and other details to persons posing as department officials over unsolicited calls.
The move follows reports of cyber criminals are now allegedly targeting the BLOs of the election department.
District deputy electoral officer Vivek Suman on Sunday said, “All BLOs have been asked not to provide bank account details and other information or OTP to anyone. The district election department never asks for details of bank, PAN, ATM statement or OTP from any BLO or the public.”
“I have requested the Bokaro police to take action against the potential cyber fraud attempt,” he added.
Police have started investigating the case.
Notably, some BLOs recently complained to the District Election Office (DEO) that they are receiving calls from mobile numbers 9748130857, 7381446188, 7485068908 and 89691373504 who are introducing them as officers or employees of the DEO, seeking information about the progress of election-related works, and then asking for Aadhaar, PAN, bank account details, ATM, and the OTP number that they are receiving on their mobile phones.
