Panaji: The state government has called in doctors from Karnataka to check the condition of the panther trapped in a cage on Saturday at Balli village of Quepem taluka.
The rescued panther has been kept in Bondla Zoo for observation.
Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane informed that following the discussion with additional principal chief conservator of forest Saurabh Kumar and Vinay Luthra, an advisor to the forest department, doctors have been called in from Karnataka to check the wellbeing of the panther, under the supervision of forest officials.
Karnataka officials have also been called in to help the Goa forest department install a tracking device on the animal so as to monitor its movements.
Rane said the panther will be released into the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary after its wellbeing is reviewed.
The panther suffered minor injuries after it walked into the trap laid by the forest department.
The trapping cage was laid in the village after it was seen that the animal had been moving into a human settlement.
The department has now begun investigating as to what made the panther leave its habitat and enter the human settlement.
