Surat civic body spends 96% of budgeted expenditure
Surat: As the financial year 2022-23 ended on Friday, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said that it achieved 96% of its expenditure target as proposed in the budget. Of the projected expenditure of Rs 2,601 crore for 2022-23, SMC spent Rs 2,509 crore. Most of it was spent to improve civic infrastructure, said SMC officials.
The money was spent on the development of infrastructure for water supply, drainage lines, roads, street lights, bridges, health, education, hygiene and emergency services.
According to SMC, capital expenditure of Rs 1,986 crore recorded in 2018-19 was the highest. But the expenditure remained lower in the following years. However, around 26% more expenditure was incurred in 2022-23 compared to 2018-19.
The highest expenditure of Rs 426 crore was by the department of affordable housing followed by the drainage department (Rs 408 crore). Various departments like hydraulic and water purification, bridge cell and road development have spent 100% of the funds allocated.
Tapi Suddhikaran Project department utilized Rs 234 crore (96%) of Rs 242 crore allocated funds.
