NAGPUR: Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has approved anew Rs 1,000 crore for cement-concrete road project and said that all major roads of the city will soon be converted and will not require any maintenance for the next 50 years. He also said funds for the construction of flyover from Shatabdi Chowk to Mhalgi Nagar in South Nagpur will be sanctioned soon.
On Saturday, Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Fadnavis performed bhoomi puja of the city’s longest flyover to be built between Kamal Chowk to Dighori via and Ashok Square. The project costs ₹1,000 crore.
Announcing integrated traffic management system project for the city, Fadnavis said, “Rs 300 crore was released to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for cement-concrete road project a day ago. Another ₹1,670 crore was also released to the city a day ago of which ₹350 crore was for Mayo hospital, ₹124 crore for Nandigram project (cattle shelter home), ₹125 crore for new Town Hall, ₹40 crore for Sakkardara lake etc. I have also approved ₹350 crore for further development of Mankapur Divisional Sports Complex,” he said.
Gadkari said until now 40 metres was the longest distance between two piers in any bridge constructed in the country. “The extension to 120 metres is to ensure existing houses or shops will not be demolished. This is being achieved as steel fibre beam will be used instead of iron. This technology has been brought from Malaysia and will also help in saving ₹600 crore,” he said.
Gadkari claimed the Pardi flyover will be inaugurated within two months. “Works on a new flyover of 2.8km connecting Mominpura with Kamptee Road will begin soon and be completed by March 2024. Bhoomipuja of new wholesale grain and oil market will be performed at Kalamna soon. Many projects have been planned to ease congestion in Central and East Nagpur,” he said.
The minister is keen to take saoji cuisine to the entire country. “I brought vegetarian chicken and mutton from abroad and a saoji outlet at Dhapewada cooked it along with real chicken and mutton. No one could realize the difference,” he said.
Gadkari also said the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar-Pune greenfield highway will see travel time from Nagpur to Aurangabad reduced to three hours and to Pune to 4.5 hours. “Underground parking is being planned at Marwadi Chowk and parking plazas in other congested areas,” he said.
BJP state president Chandrashekar Bawankule said Fadnavis approved two more thermal power units of 660 MW each at Koradi and they will be pollution-free. He asked the ministers to link the new flyover up to city’s outskirts till Nari-Nara. “Gadkari sanctioned over Rs 1 lakh crore funds for the city and will not need to campaign during elections. Citizens will elect him next year by over 7 lakh votes margin,” he said.
