NER’s Varanasi div generates revenue of ₹1.16 cr in 2022-23
Varanasi: The Varanasi division of the North Eastern Railway (NER) performed exceptionally well in revenue earning in 2022-23 by exceeding its set target.
The divisional railway manager, Ramashray Pandey said that the expected total earning of the division is Rs 1.16 crore, which is 20% more than the target of Rs 966 crores, and 33% more than the last best figure of 2021-22 (Rs 870 crore).
Besides, the coaching revenue figured Rs 1,014 crores, which is 40% more than the previous best figure of Rs 720 crore in 2019-20.
Similarly, the revenue earned from parcels is Rs 10.63 crore, which is also more than the target of Rs 10.29 crore.
In ticket checking, the division earned Rs 38 crore against the target of Rs 33.93 crore, while the revenue earned by common sundry is Rs 11.30 crore against the target of Rs 6.57 crore, said the DRM.
Though Varanasi division of NER is mainly a passenger traffic-oriented division, it earned Rs 80.16 crore. However, the freight revenue in 2021-22 was Rs 97.58 crore.
Formed in 1969, the Varanasi division of NER was basically a meter gauge route system until 1981, when the work of gauge conversion started on the Gorakhpur-Siwan section.
