PUNE: Most parts of
Maharashtra are likely to witness near-normal day temperatures, except Konkan, which has higher probability of hotter maximum temperatures till June this year, an IMD outlook on temperatures during the upcoming months has indicated.
Above-normal heatwave days are likely to occur over most parts of central India, including Maharashtra, east India and northwest India, during the hot weather season April to June 2023, the outlook stated.
Above-normal heatwave days are likely over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, east UP, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, north Chhattisgarh, western parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat and some parts of west UP,
Punjab and Haryana during April 2023, the outlook said.
K S Hosalikar, head of the Climate Research and Services, IMD,Pune, told TOI, "During April to June 2023, most parts of Maharashtra have a higher probability of experiencing near-normal to normal average maximum temperature. However, when April is considered, the outlook indicates that most parts of Maharashtra have a higher probability of experiencing above-normal day temperatures."
He said, "The first 10 days of April could see relatively cooler temperatures during the day time, as per a recent extended range forecast issued by IMD. The outlook is however referring to the entire month of April , when the average maximum temperature could be above normal."
He said the outlook for April to June 2023 for minimum temperature indicated near-normal to normal readings in many parts of the state, except for some parts of south and Madhya Maharashtra where there is a higher probability of above-normal night temperatures. The outlook showed a higher probability of above-normal heatwave days in most parts of Maharashtra during April to June, when some regions could experience two-four more heatwave days than is normal. Some parts could experience a similar scenario this month.
