Improved power capacity set to bring relief to Bardez
Panaji: The 33KV overhead line from the Tivim substation to Mapusa — line one and two — has been converted to high current capacity conductors and is awaiting commissioning.
The 33KV overhead line from the Tivim substation to Porvorim has also been converted to high current capacity conductors.
Together, the two projects are expected to enhance power supply availability to substations at Porvorim, Mapusa, Nachinola, Saligao, Calangute, Candolim, Nagao, and the entire coastal belt in Bardez, officials said in documents tabled at the recent assembly session.
The substations at Sal in Bicholim and Karaswada in Mapusa have already been upgraded, which will improve power supply availability to these areas, the state electricity department said.
“The Karaswada substation will cater to the Mapusa town and surrounding areas, besides the industrial estate at Karaswada. The Sal substation will supply power to the Bicholim taluka,” officials said.
Additionally, a separate substation is also being readied at Tuem to meet the requirements of the proposed electronic city that will come up in the area. This substation will also handle some of the load of parts of Bardez taluka.
Meanwhile, an ultra-modern substation at Patto-Panaji is on the verge of completion.
“On the inception of this substation, the quality and stability of power in the Panaji area will be elev-ated,” the Economic Survey 2023 states.
Three such ultra-modern substations have already been commissioned at Altinho-Panaji, Calangute and Navelim.
“The substations will cater to about 1.5 lakh consumers in Panaji and about 20,000 consumers along the coastal belt of Calangute thereby further improving the power supply availability, quality and reliability to the consumers. The Navelim substation will benefit about 12,000 consumers in Navelim and adjoining areas assuring reliable and quality power supply,” states the Economic Survey.
