Chennai cops seize 81kg ganja worth Rs 48 lakh

CHENNAI: Police on Friday seized 81kg of ganja worth ₹48.6 lakh near Arambakkam.
Based on a tip-off, the officers of the enforcement bureau conducted vehicle checks in Arambakkam, Uthukottai and Elavur in the Tiruvallur district.
The police on Friday evening intercepted a car near the Arambakkam check post and found the ganja inside the vehicle. They arrested the accused and identified him as Sankar Thasarath Pawar from Maharashtra. According to the police, the accused was smuggling ganja from Andhra Pradesh. He was remanded in judicial custody.
This year, 426 cases were registered and 1,590kg of ganja was seized by the enforcement bureau. In March, about 730kg of ganja, 69 vehicles were seized.
