PSG 0-1 Lyon Ligue 1 Highlights: PSG loses second straight home game

That’s the full time whistle. Bradley Barcola’s second half goal was suffiecient to get the better of Cristophe Galtier’s PSG. This is the second straight home loss for the side.

Safe to say this was a toothless performance by PSG. Mbappe sparked in bits but other than that nothing positive to take home. Messi was absent for the most part. No influence on the game. No other player stepped to take responsibility either.

As a result, PSG’s lead at the topn of the table is cut short to six points. The side has not scored a goal in 180 minutes of play. Worrying signs. The next challenge for PSG will be away to Nice next Sunday.

For Lyon, a French Cup semifinal awaits. It will take on Nantes and what better way to head into the crunch encounter than pulling off an away win against the Ligue 1 champion.

Gharbi is fouled by Tolisso and that is another yellow card for Lyon. The free kick is taken quickly and the ball reaches the Lyon penalty area. Gharbi gets a shot but a comfortable save for Lopes.

Lopes collects Mbappe’s cross from the left flank. That might have been the last chance for PSG.

Yellow card for Barcola for tripping Danilo. A free kick for PSG near the circle.

Mbappe’s shot takes a deflection and goes out for a corner.

Four minutes of injury time added. Tolisso is down for Lyon as he gets a ball hit on his face.

Nuno Mendes wins a corner for PSG. Messi deliveres but Lovren is positioned well to clear it.

Thiago Mendes fouls Nuno Mendes near the left corner flag. Thiago is arguing that the ball had run out of play but the referee had made up his mind.

Hakimi misses! Lyon commits a howler and gifts the possession to Hakimi in its own penalty area. What saves it is the fact that the shot is on Hakimi’s left. He goes through with the shot but lacks any control and the ball flies past the goal.

Ekitike takes a long range attempt at goal but Lopes does not really have too much problem in saving that.

Messi is surrounded by Lyon shirts which causes him to lose possession just outside the opponent’s penalty area.

Under 15 minutes to go in the contest. PSG staring at back-to-back home losses.

Messi cuts to his left side and takes a curler at goal. He takes a deflection and goes over the goal. But the referee, stationed right in front of Messi, fails to see it. Goal kick given as Messi looks on in disbelief.

Vitinha steals the ball off a Lyon player and leads a counter attack. Lyon is able to send enough bodies back to deny the space to do that.

SAVED AGAIN! Dembele almost scores with his first touch. Donnarumma gets down on his left side to deny the chance. Brilliant.

Messi had a clear cut opportunity to run a through ball to Mbappe. But he is unable to control the ball and the ball is taken off him.

SAVED! Donnarumma makes a great save to deny a shot from the left side of the penalty area.

Lacazette caught offside while trying to control a long-range pass.

Mbappe again dribbles through a range of Lyon players on the left wing to try to find a pass into the penalty area. He meets a similar fate as he has previously in the contest.

PSG gets multiple chances. First Vitinha’s shot is blocked. Messi gets the deflection and crosses it in. Marquinhos connects with it but puts it over.

A free kick for PSG on the left flank. Messi steps over it.

LYON! 1-0! PSG is shell-shocked. The vistors go ahead.

Lacazette starts the attack from the right and puts the ball in. The shot from the centre is blocked. Lyon is able to keep the attack alive and Barcola gets a neat tap-in to give the lead to his side.

Lyon counters from the set piece defence. Barcola with giant strides enters the PSG penalty area but the ball is nicked off his feat just in time.

Thiago Mendes clears a cut back from Nuno- Mendes and PSG gets the first corner of the second half.

Thiago Mendes intercepts a pass from Mbappe. Lyon tries to counter from theron but Danilo is placed correclty to thwart any danger.

PSG wins the ball back in no time. Throw in for the home team.

Lyon gets the second half underway.

The players are waiting in the tunnel to resume for the second period.

Cristophe Galtier lets his displeasure at the penalty decision known to the referee. That’s how the half concludes.

Lyon had the best chance to pull ahead but Lacazette, on his 150th appearance for the club, missed a penalty. Paris has been able to create chances but has lacked the composure in front of goal. Vitinha, Mbappe and Mendes had the best chances but failed to convert.

A penalty call by PSG was denied towards the close of the half.

The sides cannot be seperated at the half-way point and the second half is likely to be just as exciting as the first.

Nuno Mendes is screaming for a penalty! The ball clearly struck Lovren’s hand. And right in front of goal.

The referee disagrees. Even the VAR decides against a penalty.

The ball lands at Renato Sanches’ feet and he shoots from outside the box. He forces a save from Lopes. A corner for PSG.

Three minutes of stoppage time.

Mbappe was at three places at once. Down the left wing. In the penalty area and the back on the left wing. But all his efforts to build a scoring chance yield nothing.

Tempers flaring! Renato Sanches and Sael Kumbedi have an aggressive altercation. Yellow cards shown to both.

LACAZETTE MISSES! He misses the penalty. He went towards the left side, sent Donnarumma the wrong way but hits the post. A Lyon player gets to the rebound but sends it over the goal.

A costly miss for Lyon. Will it come back to bite?

PENALTY! LYON HAS A PENALTY!

Marcola’s shot is saved by Donnarumma as the Lyon striker slipped. The PSG keeper, however, fails to collect it cleanly. As Lacazette approaches to collect the loose ball, he is tripped by Donnarumma’s shoulder.

An unfortunate way to concede a penalty but Lyon will take it. A yellow card as well for the PSG keeper.

Messi’s set piece delivery is cleared and Lyon eventually wins a free kick for a foul committed by Renato Sanches.

PSG wins its first corner. Nuno Mendes gets it for the side.

Cherki wins a corner for Lyon. He took a shot from outside the box which got a deflection on its way out. Nothing comes off the set piece.

15 minutes left in the first half and the game is still goalless.

Lyon is appealing for a free kick. Cherki played an overhead to Lacazette and the French forward looks to have been tripped. Referee waives the claims though.

PSG turns a set piece defence into an attack. Messi is charging down the left wing and gets into the penalty area, But he takes on one player too many and loses the ball.

A slight delay in proceedings as Lyon’s Sarr receives treatment. Looks like he will go off.

Chance for Lyon! Danilo with a mistake in collecting a pass. Lyon pounces on it and Mendes gets the shot. The right-footed attempt goes wide.

Messi attempts a through ball to Mbappe but gets too much weight on that.

Yellow card for Bitshiabu. He makes an error with his pass which leads into a Lyon counter attack. The young PSG player tracks back but Lacazette dribbles past him. He had no other option but to drag him back and take one for the team.

PSG with another entry into the Lyon penalty area. Mbappe tries to work some magic with his neat footwork but Lyon prevents any space.

MISS! Mbappe’s shot goes wide off goal. The ball is rolling out past the touchline as Mbappe runs in and chips it with outside of his boot. He beats Lopes but the shot was off target.

Mbappe’s shot from outside the box is blocked.

Mbappe gets a through ball in the box but the French forward overruns and the ball passes from behind him.

PSG comfortbaly holding on to the ball for the moment. No real threat to the Lyon goal though.

VITINHA! Oh what a miss. He was one on one and went for a chip. The ball took too much height and went over the bar. Should have been 1-0.

Mbappe set that chance up. He was on the left corner of the Lyon penalty area and slipped a diagnol to the Portuguese in the six yard box.

PSG retains the ball for the entire first minute and then builds an attack from the right. However, Messi’s pass to the centre to Sanches is not collected cleanly and the possession turns over.

PSG gets the game underway from the centre circle.

The delay is over. Both teams make their way to the field. The handshakes and team photographs done. Ready to go!

PSG remains at the top of the pack despite the loss to Rennes. A win tonight will take it nine points clear at 69.

Lyon struggles at 10th with 41 points. Three points against PSG will take it to ninth, ahead of Lorient.

Kylian Mbappe leads the hunt with 19 goals. Alex Lacazette is following closely at 17. The Lyon player is currently third but a brace tonight can make him the joint-leader.

Mbappe, currently level with Jonathan David of Lille, can pull into a clear lead with a goal against Lyon.
