PATNA: A man was allegedly lynched by an angry mob after he killed an 11-year-old boy guarding crops at his farmland under Punpun police station area in
Patna district on Saturday.
The incident triggered massive protests in the area and the police had to battle hard to calm down the angry villagers who had blocked roads and resorted to arson to register their protest.
Police and witnesses said Golu Kumar, son of Sanjay Singh from Alauddinchak village, was guarding his vegetable field while sitting inside a hut when the accused reached there and hit him with a farming tool, killing him on the spot.
Hearing his cries, local villagers rushed to the spot and tried to nab the accused, who climbed up the high-tension electric pole to escape assault. "A mob gathered there, surrounded the electric pole from all sides and started hitting the accused with stones. Some people even climbed the electric pole. Eventually he fell down and died," ASP Shubham Arya told the media.
Local villagers, however, claimed the accused was lynched by the mob after he fell down the tower. Witnesses said the accused was holding sickle and weeding knife in his hands while climbing the electric pole. Police say the accused was mentally deranged and his identity could not be ascertained.
