WCL mined record 64 tonnes coal last financial year
Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has mined 64.2 million tonnes of coal in 2022-23. This is dubbed to be the highest ever production of the company which is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL).
The final production surpassed the target which was set at 62 million tonnes for the year. The company plans to mine as much as 67 million tonnes in the current financial year.
WCL also gave away appointment letters to 75 project affected person whose lands have been taken over for opening of new mines or expansion of existing projects. The letters were given away by Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari and Ramtek MP, Krupal Tumhane.
Officials present in the function said Gadkari praised the company for scaling up its production. He also appreciated the company for its sand segregation project. Under this, WCL is producing sand out of the earth dug out to mine coal.
The company has emerged second among all the CIL subsidiaries in over burden removal. This relates to removal of soil for mining of coal. According to WCL press release it has registered a 19.7% growth removing as much as 327 million cubic metres of overburden which again is the highest ever.
The coal dispatch has also surpassed target and WCL has been able to send as much as 62.16 million tones to its consumers, states a press release.
