Nagpur: Protesting over the issue of disqualification of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha, party members staged a dharna-andolan at Samvidhan Chowk on Saturday. Former state cabinet minister and senior Congress leader Shivajirao Moghe said the protests will continue to highlight the ‘high handedness’ of the central government.
Moghe said, “The Modi government is behaving like fascists. In a democracy, it is the right of everyone to be heard and solutions found to the issues raised by them.”
Congress party members said that it was the growing popularity of Gandhi which BJP sees as a threat. Wasim Khan, Congress’ minority cell chief, said, “Till Rahul Gandhi’s membership in Lok Sabha is restored, these protests will continue. The Bharat Jodo Yatra saw tremendous support from people and this is being seen as a threat by BJP to their hold on power.”
Moghe said that Congress party will continue to raise issues of the
common people as they are burdened with rising costs of essential items.
Countering the protests by Congress, the BJP too has their schedule planned. On Sunday the saffron party has planned a protest against Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments about Vinayak Savarkar.
