It raises 3 linear projects, Old Goa bungalow issues
Margao: Coming out in support of the party’s national leader Rahul Gandhi who was recently disqualified from his Lok Sabha seat after being convicted by a Surat court, the South Goa Congress Committee (SGCC) on Saturday called out to people of the state and the country to unite and help ‘save democracy.’
SGCC president Savio D’Silva, while speaking to mediapersons at the party’s South Goa office, said, “Within 24 hours, our MP Rahul Gandhi was disqualified. This is because they are scared of him but he is not scared of them. Even in Goa, the government is going ahead with what people are against like coal, three linear projects, Old Goa bungalow and others. People are against illegal activities, but the government is not listening to them. We don’t think this government will do anything good for the state.”
Party spokesperson Captain Viriato Fernandes added, “This is an issue being discussed world over. ‘Modani’ is a dictator and we have reached a state of undeclared emergency. Rahul Gandhi has raised the issue of democracy and we are saying we are the largest but Modi is controlling every aspect of it. Gandhi is raising this issue pertinently about the relationship between Modi and Adani. Congress was the party that helped build this country but today Modani is looking to sell it all. All Indians have to unite and remove this Modani government.”
Party general secretary Moreno Rebello, while recalling the sequence of events that led to the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi starting from April 2019, said they were worried he may have to face a similar fate as that of his father Rajiv Gandhi and grandmother Indira Gandhi.
“Both were assassinated and now he may also face the same fate unless people rally behind him and bring the government to its senses and stop the dadagiri that is going on today. If we don’t stand up we will see bad days and we ask to support Rahul Gandhi and Congress and see that India thrives,” said Rebello.
Congress Mahila president Beena Naik said, “The voices of people are being suppressed and because of this Rahul Gandhi had started Bharat Jodo Yatra covering a large area and lent a helping hand. Today’s situation is so ironic because a person who wanted to lend a helping hand is being taken out from his own home.”
