Monserrates say they didn’t dig, Caculo calls spade a spade on FB
Bizman says in the post that people didn’t vote for engineers, babus
Panaji: The simmering discontent over the haphazard digging in the state capital has spilled out into the open with a prominent businessman, Manoj Caculo, taking to Facebook to vent his ire. With Panaji MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate and city mayor Rohit Monserrate washing their hands of the mess, Caculo appealed to chief minister Pramod Sawant to bring some order to Panaji.
In his post, Caculo appears clearly displeased with the father-son duo for shrugging off their responsibilities as elected representatives.
“Let’s fend for ourselves. MLA says he is not responsible and mayor says he’s not responsible. Which engineer and which contractor do I approach?” said Caculo in the post.
Caculo operates a mall at St Inez and all the access roads to this mall have been dug up for over a year and the road is in a shambles.
Caculo, a former president of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that residents of Panaji did not vote for engineers, contractors, or the chief secretary who heads IPSCDL (Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited).
IPSCDL has taken up over 30 projects, most of them simultaneously, in the capital as part of the Smart City Mission. This has led to contractors digging up every road in the city. With the capital also set to play host to the G20 delegation meetings from this month, the government has gone on an overdrive to beautify Panaji, sparking further chaos.
“Are citizens supposed to be inconvenienced by these meets? Chief minister, do you realise, at least now, that we need help in Panaji? Does anyone in the current dispensation care?” said Caculo. He said that the chaos is ruining Goa’s image.
