Covid cases rise, 2 hosps turned into dedicated facility
Varanasi: The coronavirus has once again started spreading in the district. As the number of Covid infected patients has started increasing, the health department has swung into action for its prevention and effective control.
Chief medical officer Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary said, “Taking note of the situation, two hospitals - Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Government Hospital in Pandeypur and Shivpur Urban Community Health Centre — have been made Covid-dedicated hospitals.”
According to him, with the detection of two more Covid positive cases in the district on Thursday, the number of infected persons increased to 15 in March. Presently, there are 10 active patients in the district, and all have been kept in home isolation.
The CMO said that as per the instructions received from the government, 10 beds each have been reserved for Covid patients in DDU Hospital and Shivapur CHC. “The DDU hospital has a capacity of 55 beds while Shivpur CHS has a capacity of 30 beds for Covid patients. If it becomes necessary, the number of beds in these hospitals will be increased. Facilities like investigations, sufficient quantities of medicines and other health services will be available in these dedicated hospitals,” he said.
Besides, instructions have been given to reserve 10 beds each in the remaining hospitals of the district, five beds each in all community health centres and two beds each in primary health centres for Covid patients. The CMO directed all the medical superintendents and in-charges to check any possible Covid and influenza flu-like patients and ensure arrangements for their treatment.
The CMO said, “Covid testing facilities are available in DDU Hospital, SSPG Divisional Hospital Kabirchaura, LBS Hospital Ramnagar, SVM Hospital Bhelupur and BHU hospital in the district.”
District surveillance officer and ACMO, Dr. SS Kanojia, said that symptoms like difficulty in breathing, fast breathing or shortness of breath, fever or cough are repeated even after getting cured. “If you see these types of symptoms, immediately go to the nearest hospital and get yourself examined and get treated according to the doctor's advice,” he said.
