MLA ‘stuck’ in jam in Feroze Gandhi mkt
Ludhiana: While the visitors coming to the Feroze Gandhi Market are still caught in traffic jams and mismanagement in the parking lots, the civic officials are going to start the construction of concrete base in one of the five parking lots of the market. Though the multi-level car parking project is still a distant dream for the public, the officials claimed they can at least get a concrete space to park their vehicles with this project. More than a year has passed since this project was approved.
Meanwhile requesting anonymity, a shopkeeper in the market claimed on Friday Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Gogi had come for the inauguration of the project in the market and his cavalcade had also got stuck in the traffic jam for a few minutes. He urged the authorities to find a permanent solution to the mess here.
The market association claimed it will help the visitors park their vehicles properly because the parking lot gets filled with water during rains and parking becomes a “nightmare”. Even during the routine days, the parking lot is uneven so commuters face problems while parking their vehicles.
Market association chairman Col Harjap Singh (retd) said, “The public was waiting for this parking lot in improved condition and after a long wait, finally the civic body will start the work. During parking of vehicles in the market, people face problems as some even complained that their vehicles got damaged after parking here.” He said the civic authorities have failed to solve the parking mess in the market despite several claims of providing multi-level car parking.
An official claimed that the project to build this concrete parking base would cost Rs 41 lakh and it would be completed shortly.
Feroze Gandhi market is one of the busiest markets of the city and was developed by LIT and later handed over to municipal corporation for maintenance. The MC had proposed a multi-level parking lot in the market under the Smart City Mission to curb the haphazard parking at roadside, but there’s no progress on that so far.
