Campaign in Varanasi slums to promote benefit of millets
Varanasi: Adani Foundation under Poshan Pakhwada has been carrying out a drive to raise awareness about the health benefits of millets among children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women in slum areas of Varanasi.
Under the Suposhan Project, the foundation is apprising the target audience through exhibition of dishes along with the method of their preparation.
Nutrition rally, community meeting with women and adolescent girls and family counseling etc is also held as part of the campaign.
Dishes like fara, chilla, gujiya, biscuit, churma, dumpling, paratha, dumplings, idli, dosa etc made from bajra, ragi, jowar, maize flour are being promoted.
An official of the foundation said with the regular consumption of millet dishes the requirement of key nutrients in the body like proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, mineral salts, fat, water and fiber are fulfilled.
“Due to this, all people of the household and community can live a healthy and happy life. It also increases the ability to fight against diseases,” the official said and added that "If you want to have a healthy mind and healthy body, then eat coarse grains regularly."
He added that rich nutrition is found in coarse grains which is very important for the health of children, adolescent girls and women and should be regularly used in daily food.
Anganwadi workers, supervisors, assistants and workers of other organisations were also present.
Suposhan sanginis are also visiting homes in the slums of beneficiaries and informing them about various dishes.
