LUDHIANA: The city on Friday continued to witness rainfall for the second consecutive day, further reducing the temperature on the day. Meanwhile, the meteorological department has put Ludhiana on “yellow alert”, predicting gusty winds in the coming days.
It had started to drizzle in Ludhiana on Thursday evening and it also rained early in the morning on Friday. During the day as well, intermittent rainfall was received and the sky remained cloudy for most parts of the day.
As per the met department, 1.6 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Ludhiana between 8.30am on Thursday and 8.30am on Friday, and another 3mm between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, the impact of rainfall and cloudy weather reflected on the maximum (day) temperature in the city on Friday which was recorded at 20.3 degrees Celsius (°C), which is a whopping 9.5 degrees less than the normal and even 9.9 degrees less than a day before.
The minimum (night) temperature in Ludhiana on Friday was recorded at 17.2°C, which is 3 degrees more than normal, but a degree less than a day before.
The met department weather warning for Punjab puts weather in Ludhiana in the “yellow alert” on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and predicts “thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds (speed 30-40 Kmph)” in the district.
Besides, the night temperature is expected to remain slightly less during the next two days whereas the day temperature is expected to rise from April 2.
The met department website suggests that day temperature is expected to fall to 24°C by Saturday and then rise to 30°C by Wednesday, and the night temperature may fall to 15°C by Sunday, and then rise to 17°C the next day.
Meanwhile, residents had to grapple with a slightly cold weather, especially during the evening in city.
City resident Hardeep Singh said, “I don’t remember that last year I had to wear a sweat shirt in the end of March due to cold weather. The weather this year, especially in March end, has been different as it has rained twice in last 10 days. Weather is such that we haven’t used fans for many days as one feels cold in such conditions.”
