2 PAU students win PM research fellowship
Ludhiana: Two students of the Punjab Agricultural University, Bikkasani Mythri and Om Prakhash Raigar, pursuing Ph D in the Department of plant breeding and genetics, have bagged the prestigious Prime Minister Fellowship for their doctoral research, out of a total of 23 students selected for the above fellowship at the national level by Science and Engineering Research Board (DST)-CII.
Sharing the information, Dr Pardeep Kumar Chhuneja, dean, postgraduate studies, said that among the nine agricultural institutes recipient of the PM fellowship, it is only the PAU that has bagged two fellowships.
Dr V S Sohu, head of their department informed that Mythri will work on ‘genome wide association and genomic prediction for silage component traits in tropical maize’ under the supervision of maize breeder Dr Tosh Garg during her Ph D. Besides, Om Prakhash Raigar will work on ‘Harnessing the allelic variations for improving nutrient deficiency tolerance in rice (Oryza sativa L.) under direct seeded cultivation conditions’ under the guidance of principal rice breeder Dr Rupinder Kaur.
Vice-chancellor Satbir Singh Gosal congratulated the students on their achievement. tnn
