Noida: A 30-year-old truck driver was charred to death after his vehicle caught fire following an accident on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in Greater Noida on Friday morning.
Police said the truck was travelling from Panipat to Faridabad when it was hit by an unidentified vehicle from behind and the driver’s cabin burst into flames, trapping him inside.
According to cops, the victim has been identified as Dharmendra Kumar, a resident of Bulandshahr.
“We received information about the accident around 5am following which a team from the Badalpur police station rushed to the spot. The incident took place near Kalda village on EPE. The fire department was informed and soon a fire engine reached the scene to douse the blaze. Subsequently, we took the body into custody and sent it for an autopsy,” said Ravindra Kumar, the in charge of Badalpur police station. Police said the driver was alone at the time of the accident.
Police informed the deceased’s family about the accident, after which his brother filed a complaint against the driver of the unidentified vehicle.
Based on his complaint, the accused has been booked under IPC sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving).
“We are checking the footage from the CCTV cameras installed on the expressway to identify the accused driver,” the police officer stated.
