Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan has become a social media favourite after his hilarious commentary during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 opening match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, on March 31. Jio Cinemas, IPL’s digital partner, has hired around 120 commentators so that the fans can enjoy the league in 12 different languages.

The 16th edition of the IPL is streaming in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali, as well as the new additions of Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Oriya, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati. Cricket fans loved this initiative but amongst all, Bhojpuri commentary has left the internet in splits.

Kishan made some comical remarks that have gone viral on social media and the fans say that they do not want to watch the tournament in any other language. A fan wrote that his commentary is funnier than most stand-up acts. His phrases like ‘Anghoota tod bowling’ and ‘Ee ka ho, munh ha phod be ka?’ (What was that? It could have broken the batsman’s face!) have made the fans cry laughing.

Here are some of the reactions:

Gujarat Titans won the tournament opener match by 5 wickets against Chennai Super Kings which is led by MS Dhoni, with credit to Shubman Gill who scored 63 runs off 36 balls. Gujarat will be playing against Delhi Capitals in their next match whereas Chennai is lined up with Lucknow Super Giants for their next match.

The first match was held in the world’s largest stadium Narendra Modi Stadium, also known as Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, and attended by over 1 lakh fans, while millions enjoyed it from their home on OTT. The opening ceremony featured Arijit Singh, Tamanaah Bhatia and Rashmika Mandanna.

Meanwhile, another viral picture of Arijit Singh touching MS Dhoni’s feet has left the internet teary-eyed.
