Ludhiana: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Friday arrested assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Balwinder Singh, posted in Tibba police station, for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
A VB spokesperson said the ASI was arrested on the complaint of Dr Arun Behal, resident of Raju Colony, Tibba Road, who had approached the economic offences wing of VB Ludhiana, accusing the police official of demanding Rs 10,000 as bribe to help him get bail in a case registered against him.
The spokesperson said a VB team laid a trap and the official was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station Ludhiana range. tnn
