Accused Arun sentenced to life

Thiruvananthapuram: The sixth additional sessions court judge K Vishnu on Friday convicted and sentenced Arun (29) to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakhs for murdering Surya Gayathri (20) in 2021. The court also ordered that her mother Valsala shall be compensated by the Legal Service Authority.
According to the verdict, if the convict fails to pay the penalty, he will have to serve an additional prison term for six months. In addition to rigorous life imprisonment, the court also punished the convict for a prison term of 20 years for other offences related to the crime.
The court lauded the efforts of BS Sajimon, the investigating officer and prosecutor M Salahudeen for collecting the evidence and presenting it accurately in the court. Public prosecutors M Salahudeen and Vinu Murali appeared for the prosecution.
Surya was staying in a rented house along with her differently abled parents at Nedumangad. Arun barged into the house through the kitchen door and stabbed Surya Gayathri repeatedly. Although her mother tried to save her, Arun stabbed her also.
Reacting to the verdict her mother said she was not satisfied and the convict shall be hanged to death.
