IISER Pune opens STEM tinkering experience centre to nurture tech skills of students

A STEM tinkering experience centre has been inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune recently as part of the STEM-Ready project that aims to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in schools.

The centre is designed to provide a unique learning experience to students and teachers and is equipped with state-of-the-art tools and equipment, and students can engage in various STEM-based activities and design scientific experiments.

The centre also has many experiments that can be designed with readily available low-cost materials to wider reach. The teachers and students will be able to explore these activities in this dedicated STEM tinkering space, a statement noted.

STEM Ready project offers workshops for teachers where they can learn to integrate STEM education into their curriculum and develop innovative teaching methods. These workshops are aimed at empowering teachers to create a more engaging and effective learning environment for students.

The project is being conducted in collaboration with Tata Technologies. Vikrant Gandhe, head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Tata Technologies, inaugurated the centre.

“STEM education is important in shaping the future of the country and creating a skilled workforce for the 21st century. Collaborative projects with IISER Pune have the potential to deeply impact science education in schools,” Gandhe said.
