NEET PG admissions: SC junks IMA Bihar's plea challenging minimum percentile criteria

The Supreme Court has recently dismissed a plea challenging minimum percentile criteria in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to postgraduate medical courses.

Bihar State Branch of Indian Medical Association had filed the special leave petition challenging the previous order of the Delhi High Court bench which had upheld the regulation that mandated that 50th percentile minimum marks is necessary for clearing NEET-PG entrance examination and become eligible for admission to PG medical courses.

Obesity drugs could be added to WHO essential medicines list

Drugs that combat obesity could for the first time be included on the World Health Organisation's "essential medicines list," used to guide government purchasing decisions in low- and middle-income countries, the UN agency told a news agency. A panel of advisers to the WHO will review new requests for drugs to be included next month, with an updated essential medicines list due in September.

The request to consider obesity drugs was submitted by three doctors and a researcher in the United States. It covers the active ingredient liraglutide in Novo Nordisk's obesity drug Saxenda, which will come off patent soon, allowing for cheaper generic versions.

Corruption racket busted in govt hospital in Delhi: CBI arrests neurosurgery associate professor of Safdarjung Hospital

An associate professor with the Neurosurgery department at the prominent Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi has now been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation, for allegedly being involved in illegal activities and accepting money in exchange for medical advice. 4 others of his accomplice including middlemen and a proprietor of a surgical store has also been arrested in the matter by the CBI.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a neurosurgeon of Safdarjung Hospital here and his four accomplices, who allegedly forced patients into buying surgical equipment from a particular establishment at exorbitant prices, officials said on Thursday

Any attack on doctors, medical personnel is unacceptable and non-negotiable: Kerala HC directs state to suggest measures to prevent violence

Observing that any attack on doctors and medical personnel is unacceptable and non-negotiable, the Kerala High Court has asked the State Government to suggest measures including legislation for preventing attacks on healthcare workers.

Seeking a response from the Government within March 30, the HC bench of Justices Devan Ramachandran and Kauser Edappagath has observed that it is more concerned about preventing violence against doctors rather than taking action after the attacks.
