Dentist at pvt hosp booked in botched up surgery case
Thiruvananthapuram: Nemom police have registered a case against a dentist at a private hospital for medical negligence on a complaint given by a 19-year-old girl student.
According to the complaint filed by Sradha, daughter of Sheeba of Pallichal, during a surgery performed by the doctor to remove a tooth for an orthodontic treatment, a portion of the tooth remained stuck in her jaw causing severe pain and swelling.
Now, the student has been told by senior doctors at the medical college hospital that the piece of tooth can be removed only through a surgery by cutting the jaw bones. But the doctors have also warned that such a surgery is risky as it could affect her vision and hearing and cause permanent weakness in the jaw.
As a result, it will be difficult for her to chew hard food items, the student said in the complaint.
Sradha is a second year BSc student at Dhanuvachapuram VTM NSS college.
“It was on March 16 morning that I took my daughter to the private hospital for an orthodontic treatment and the female doctor there recommended removing a tooth. A surgery was done on the same day, and we were asked to go home after the operation.
Later, she developed severe pain and swelling, and we went to Neyyattinkara taluk hospital from where she was referred to the medical college hospital,’’ said Sheeba, Shradda’s mother.
Nemom police have registered a case against the doctor under IPC Sections 336 (act endangering life of others) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life ).
