NEW DELHI: India recorded 2,151 new Covid-19 cases, the highest in five months, on Wednesday. With this, the active cases tally of the infection has gone up to 11,903 in the country, according to the Union health ministry data.
Before this, officials said, a total of 2,208 cases were recorded on October 28 last year.
The health ministry officials said Covid-19 death toll in the country has increased to 5,30,848 with seven latest fatalities - three reported by
Maharashtra, one by
Karnataka and three reconciled by Kerala. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka,
Tamil Nadu and Delhi are witnessing the maximum surge in cases.
Delhi, on Wednesday, recorded 300 new Covid-19 cases at a positivity rate of 13.9%. Two deaths were also confirmed in the national capital in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra recorded 483 new cases and three deaths.
Officials said average daily Covid-19 cases in India have increased by more than 10 times in the last six weeks.
Latest data on weekly positivity shows as many as 44 districts, spread across 18 states/Union territories, are recording greater than or equal to 10% positivity. The number of districts with 5-10% positivity is 72, the data on Covid positivity rates recorded between March 21 and 27 shows.
