MYSURU: Saying revision of electoral register will be allowed till April 11, deputy commissioner KV Rajendra, who is the election officer of Mysuru district, on Wednesday said the administration will be keeping a hawk’s eye on activities like supply of liquor without cashless, gifts through e-commerce or transportation of unaccounted cash as model code of conduct has come into force.
Separate teams have been formed to monitor and check inducements by political parties to woo voters as Karnataka is going to the polls on May 10. Liquor shops will be monitored and banking transactions will be verified on a daily basis and vehicles will be checked at checkposts.
“People carrying cash of Rs 50k and above are bound to provide proof to the election officers verifying them otherwise the amount will be seized as unaccounted,” DC told reporters in Mysuru. He advised the public not to carry an excess cash without proof.
According to the latest revision, Mysuru district has 26.22 lakh voters in 11 assembly segments with Chamundeshwari having the highest number of voters at 3.22 lakh and Periyapatna the least at 1.93 lakh voters.
As per the latest revision, Mysuru has the highest number of women voters. Voters are advised to verify their names in the list and update them. No application will be entertained after April 11.
This time special attention has been given to voters with physical disabilities, electorates above 80 years, and young voters, besides women and tribal voters. All-woman-managed (pink booths) and all-youth-managed booths to encourage youngsters to participate in the polls will be opened. This time the district will open ‘ethnic booths’ for tribals to vote in large numbers by exclusively designing the booths.
Postal ballot facilities will be provided to senior citizen voters who are unable to visit the polling stations. Mysuru district has 84k voters in the age group of 80-100 voters and about 30 above 100 years of age. A team along with representatives of parties will visit the homes of senior citizens to verify.
Lodge poll plaints on C-vigil app
The public are informed to use the technology and download the mobile application - C-vigil developed by the Election Commission to inform authorities about any election malpractice or violation of the model code of conduct.
DC Rajendra said the informer’s details will be kept secret. Footage or photos can be uploaded and all complaints on the app will be verified immediately and a report would be submitted to the Election Commission within 100 minutes.
Commissioner of police Ramesh Banoth and SP Seema Latkar said trouble-mongers have been forced into exile and rowdies and anti-social elements have been warned to keep peace during the election. Police have seized materials and cash worth Rs 67 lakh, meant for distribution for voters, the top cops stated.
They said route march would be conducted in areas having sensitive and hypersensitive booths. Checkposts have been set up to keep a vigil.
