DALTONGANJ: A woman and her three children - all under the age of 10 years - were found run over by a train, two kilometres from the Daltonganj railway station of East Central Railways under Dhanbad division on Wednesday.
Palamu superintendent of police (SP) Chandan Kumar Sinha said, "Prima facie, it looks like a case of death by suicide on the tracks."
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the woman hailed from Satbarwa block and was married in a family that resided under Haruhurganj block in Palamu district.
"I have asked a medical board to conduct the post-mortem examination of the deceased to find out if the injuries on the bodies were ante mortem. This is to be done to rule out any foul play," he added.
Another police officer added, "The woman and the children had relished oranges as orange peels were found on the tracks. The oranges might have been used by the woman to tempt the children to stay with her at the site."
A railway official said the woman and the kids came under the wheels of down goods train between 3pm and 3.30pm.
