A Day Away Spa moving to CityFlats

Formerly located at 305 Bard St., A Day Away Spa is slated to move into CityFlats at 405 Water St. on April 1.

A Day Away Spa is slated to open up in a space at CityFlats Hotel on Saturday after departing from its long-time location in downtown Port Huron.

On the spa’s final day there last week, owner Kristine Shier Edie said they were looking forward to the move — and potentially another location down the road — reconfiguring their services into a smaller footprint.

“It is probably about two-thirds of what we have here,” she said of the former spot. “However, we have nine treatment rooms over there, whereas here, we only have seven. We are changing the way we bring people in and have them fill out paperwork or in the comfort areas that we like to have at the spa. So, we’re going to be able to have more personable spaces.”

Located at 305 Bard St. for 21 years, Shier Edie said they’d owned the building for 28 before selling it to St. Clair County Community College at the end of 2022.

Now, the college is including the Bard Street address in its available selection for residence hall opportunities for students next year, and on March 22, as A Day Away closed up shop there, work was already underway on the building’s second floor.

Shier Edie said the spa previously ran long-term senior or end-of-life care services on the second floor, bringing those operations to a close over the last several years in preparation for other plans.

She said they were approached by SC4 on the sale of the property.

A Day Away Spa's last day of business at 305 Bard St. was March 22. The business is slated to move into CityFlats at 405 Water St. on April 1.

They had purchased another building in the city — so far, staying mum on where — but faced a delay in construction, looking for alternatives when the opportunity at CityFlats popped up.

If A Day Away Spa will remain at CityFlats, maintain the other future location, or both down the road hadn’t been determined, Shier Edie said.

“We’re going to take it one step at a time,” she said. “Whether we have a satellite over at CityFlat or we are going to have more of a wellness center at our next stop, I can talk about that in six months.”

At CityFlats, they’re located in suite 201 at 405 Water St. above Weekends.

Shier Edie said although they’re not a part of the operations of the hotel, they hoped to tap into the crowd it accommodates as wedding season picks up. She also hoped to pick up shoppers from downstairs.

“We look at everything as a collaboration,” she said. “We’re hoping to expand our hours and days so we can incorporate more things for more people.”

CityFlats General Manager Sydney Fletcher said, "We are extremely excited to have them on (the) property with us. Our clients and guests are overjoyed to have an in-house option for them to relax and pamper themselves."

A Day Away Spa includes the same variety of facial, massage, and other services it has previously, as well as a selection of self-care products in stock. Its website, social media presence, and contact number also remained the same.
