GURGAON: Residents of Palam Vihar’s E-Block have alleged that they have been getting muddy and foul-smelling tap water for the past two days.
The contract for the operations and maintenance of the colony’s water supply and sewerage expired in May last year. While one of the two companies previously awarded contracts are continuing services at an ad-hoc level, no new contracts have been awarded so far.
Vinod Malhotra, a resident, said they are receiving highly contaminated water, leaving him with no choice but to rely on bottled water for drinking and cooking.
Residents have been questioning the MCG’s move of not yet renewing the contract. Umesh Anand, who lives in the area, said: “The contract expired a year ago. This is a serious issue as it is a matter of health and well-being of residents.”
Additionally, the overhead tanks have not been cleaned since March 2017 despite repeated complaints to MCG, Lajpat Gupta, another resident, said.
MCG chief engineer Radheshyam Sharma said the matter hadn’t been brought to their knowledge.
“If there are any issues, I will get them checked and resolved. Services in the area haven’t been stopped and we are working on awarding the contract,” he added.
