CHANDIGARH: The Haryana cops arrested fugitive Khalistan advocate Amritpal Singh's alleged fundraiser Daljit Kalsi after giving him a long rope. Highly placed sources said Kalsi had been on the police radar since the farmers' agitation, in which he had stood with Deep Sidhu, alleged director of Republic Day storming of the Red Fort.
Sources claimed that Kalsi's work for Sidhu had earned him latter's Pakistan-based radical contacts, and after Sidhu's death, he might have earned Amritpal's trust as well. The state and central intelligence agencies had been preparing a dossier on him since his association with Deep Sidhu. Kalsi moved about in high society and ran half a dozen business concerns
Asked if his wealth could be proceeds of the NCR's gangster business, the sources did not rule it out. An official said: "There are indications but no visible evidence of his link with the gangsters and Khalistan sympathisers, or any one of the Haryana, Delhi, and NIA cops would have seized his financial assets."
It was after a special task force (STF) of Haryana Police arrested Daljit Kalsi from his house in Gurugram that an investigation started into how he funded Amritpal. An investigative agency claimed to have leads linking Kalsi with a Delhi financier and gangster.
