Bribery cuffs on settlement office staff in Silchar

Silchar: Sleuths of the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption cell arrested an employee of the settlement office in Silchar on bribery charges on Tuesday.
The arrested official, identified as Misbah Uddin Laskar, is a patwary (lat mandal) in the office. Laskar hails from Cachar district’s Sonai locality.
A senior official said a person had made a complaint against Laskar for demanding a bribe for mutation, following which a team of vigilance and anti-corruption department visited the settlement office in Silchar on Tuesday and held Laskar when he was in the act of taking Rs 3,000 from the complainant. Officials of Silchar Sadar police were also a part of the operation.
