Rajasthan: Martyr’s widow gives up hope of govt job, gears up to crack REET
Sunita Gurjar, widow of Havlidar Sheo Ram Gurjar
JAIPUR: Angry with the treatment meted to her by the state government over her application for a job of teacher on compassionate grounds, Sunita Gurjar has resolved to crack the REET to make her career on her own. Sunita is wife of Havlidar Sheo Ram Gurjar of Tiba Basai village in Jhunjhunu district of the state who had attained martyrdom and had eliminated a commander of Jaish-E-Mohammed in Kashmir on February 18, 2019.
On March 20, she received a fresh letter by the district collector, Jhunjhunu office, asking her to submit her REET score for appointment as Grade III teacher.
Since 2019, she is into communication with the government authorities. Her family members including her brother-in-law had met the ministers and MLA, but all their hopes met a dead end.
TOI on Tuesday spoke to Sunita Gurjar to know what all she went through after the death of her husband and is she still hopeful of getting a job. “When my husband attained martyrdom everyone including politicians, elected members, bureaucrats had made lofty claims and promises to me. Despite all that I studied and got MA with BEd. But I am fed up of replying to the government authorities. I will make a fresh start and will prepare for REET exam on my own,” said Sunita in an angry tone while talking to TOI.
“Maine jad hi keh deta ki naukari kon laag sake hai (They should have told me that I won’t be getting any job),” she added.
Initially, she had even appeared for REET exam but the paper was leaked and result got abolished. “In 2022, I had re-appeared for REET exam and got less marks as that year my mother-in-law passed away,” she said.
Talking about the letter she received on March 20, she said, “They are asking me to submit my REET exam markssheet. So, I have stopped expecting the job on compassionate grounds and will prepare for it myself. I will urge the state government to respect my dignity and stop giving fake promises to other widows of martyrs.”
When contacted, Rajendra Gudha, Sainik Kalyan Mantri, said, “I am with her cause. She should not be asked for REET exam markssheet. When government is giving her job on compassionate grounds, all these riders should be removed. I promise I will put this matter before the cabinet”.
