Pit-fall: Dug up for 4 days, pipes & electric wires are out in open in Greater Noida
GNIDA has assured to close all unattended pits at the earliest
NOIDA: Open pits, some with exposed electrical wires and pipes while the rest dumped with horticulture waste, are lying untended at G block of Sector Beta 2 and Block C of Sector Beta 1 in Greater Noida.
Meanwhile, untreated sewer water from Sector 51 of Noida is being emptied into an open big drain beside MMR mall in Sector 52. While residents question if this is the “new norm”, the authority has assured to address the issues.
A pit, with electrical wires and pipes jutting out on the service road of G block of Sector Beta 2 is left untended for the last four days, posing a threat of accidents. “There is a deep pit lying open in the corner of a 12-metre wide service road near block G-311. Despite repeated complaints, no action has been taken by the authority,” said Harinder Bhati a resident of Sector Beta 1.
Bhati added that the road was dug up last week following a leakage in a pipeline. “Since then, this pit has been left open, with electrical wires, pipes and cables crisscrossing,” he said.
Similarly, residents of Block C of Sector Beta 1 complained of a deep pit dug up in a vacant plot next to the community centre, where horticulture waste is being dumped. Due to a lack of sanitation, mosquito breeding is on the rise.
When contacted, Utsav Niranjan, senior manager of health and sanitation of GNIDA, assured speedy solution.
Residents of Sector 51 complained of clogged sewer lines, which are being diverted towards an open drain near the MMR Mall. “The authority is dumping untreated sewer water near the gate of MMR Mall, in front of Sector 52 metro station,” said Anil Prakash Ranotra RWA president of Sector 51. However, the authority contractor said 0the sewer of the sector is being cleaned.
