CM calls for police reforms, launches chatbot to report missing children
Mohali: Underlining the need to modernise the police force, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday launched chatbot number 9517795178 for reporting missing, found and abused children and women.
Mann said it was the need of the hour to facilitate the people by redressing their complaints at their doorsteps through online service. He also inaugurated a stakeholder workshop on ‘Working Together for Rights of Women and Children’ here at Indian School of Business (ISB).
Describing the chatbot initiative to reform the police system, Mann said the country needed ultra-modern tools such as WhatsApp chatbot and other online modules to resolve public issues quickly.
He said apart from keeping a strict eye on law and order, the police force needed to focus on community policing also.
Highlighting the need for strengthening the system of reconciliation process at village or household level to reduce the burden of the police force, Mann said it would strengthen the social fabric of the state.
He said that this would also help in wiping out various causes of social stigma and pave the way for creating an egalitarian society which would provide equal opportunities to all.
The CM announced that 10 all-women police stations were functioning in the state and more were in the pipeline. Mann said the entire justice delivery system needed to be reformed and policing was one of the core concern areas of this system which required some radical changes immediately. He said police reforms would aim to transform the values, culture, policies and practices of the police organisations. The chief minister also shared a poem penned by him – Na tan mainu jaman ton pehla hi mareya geya, Na hi mere jaman da dukh hi sahereya geya – to emphasise on providing equal opportunities to a girl child.
