PATNA: Huge stock of smuggled liquor worth Rs 5 lakh was recovered from a septic tank in 'dry' Bihar. A team of prohibition and excise department officials found 20 cartons of India-made foreign liquor hidden in a septic tank of the house owned by Mukesh Kumar Ghutka near Bumfar Chowk under Sadar police station area in Saharsa district late Monday evening.
"We received information around 3pm that a huge consignment of smuggled liquor will be unloaded at a house near Bumfar Chowk during the night. Our team reached the spot and saw some men carrying the cartons in a house. Seeing the policemen, the accused fled from the spot. Twenty cartons of IMFL was seized ," Rajkishore Prasad Singh, excise superintendent (Saharsa), told TOI on Tuesday.
Singh said when the lid of the newly constructed septic tank was removed, it was full of liquor bottles. "About 1,106 litres of liquor was seized during the raid and 65 litres alone from the septic tank," Singh said.
"A case has been registered against Mukesh and his two associates. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused," he added.
