VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Wednesday. This would be his second meeting with the Prime Minister in a span of fortnight. It was on March 17 that Jagan Mohan Reddy had a meeting with the Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. Though the officials said that the chief minister had renewed his demand for the special category status and Polavaram project funds during the last visit, the state had witnessed three key developments in the last fortnight, which were attributed to his Delhi visit.
The first development was the transfer of two judges from the high court, as one of them is alleged to be against the government in his judgments and comments. The judge heard all cases related to Amaravati and had even made comments at private meetings on capital related issues.
The second was the postponement of the hearing of Amaravati case in the Supreme Court. The court, which was scheduled to hear the case on Tuesday had posted it to July 11, after the summer vacation of the courts.
The third development that was attributed to Jagan's Delhi visit last week was the filing of anticipatory bail petition by his cousin and Kadapa MP, Y S Avinash Reddy in Telangana high court, in relation to the Vivekananda Reddy murder case. Avinash Reddy alleged that the CBI was trying to frame him in the Vivekananda Reddy murder case.
This visit is now attributed to his plans to go for early election to the assembly. Jagan had met governor Justice S Abdul Nazeer on Tuesday. Though it was called a courtesy meeting after the budget session, it is said that the CM had discussed his plans to go for cabinet shuffle and early elections to the assembly. The chief minister, as is being discussed in the political corridors of the chief minister's office, is likely to discuss his plans to dissolve the assembly and go for early elections along with Telangana. The chief minister is worried about TDP and Jana Sena strengthening anti-incumbency feeling among the people if more time is given to them.
YSRCP had lost three graduate MLC seats and one MLC seat in the assembly quota. TDP attributes this defeat as growing unrest among the people and Jagan wants to go for elections before the anti-incumbency is spread across the state.
The chief minister who is currently in Visakhapatnam will leave for Delhi on Wednesday after attending the G20 meeting. The chief minister reached this port city on Tuesday from his Tadepalli camp office.
