‘Green’ ration card meant for identity only
Porvorim: Citizens who wish to continue holding their ration cards purely for identification purposes, will now be issued a ‘green’ card. They will, however, not to be able to claim any ration quotas.
The civil supplies department will soon be colour coding its cards to distinguish between beneficiaries and non-beneficiary card holders.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant, while speaking at the state budget on Wednesday, said the government will revive the allotment process of all ration cards in the state.
“New ration cards of pink colour will be issued under ‘Priority Household’ category and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) as per the eligibility criteria,” he said.
As per a government directive last month, families having a combined income of more than Rs five lakh per annum are set to lose their ration privileges. In the order, the state civil supplies department has directed beneficiaries to surrender their ration cards if they meet this criterion. These persons will now be able to avail the green card for identification purposes only.
